Welcome to the land of Ali Baba and the Arabian nights.
Indian Desert. Somewhere out there is Pakastan but under strict orders from our loving parents we stayed at a distance.
Last two days in Jaisalmer we found ourselves in the middle of a sand storm. The only experience I can compare is to that of a white out in the mountains. Sand whipping through the air stings with every grain. It gets in your eyes and make your teeth crunch. Everything shuts down in the storm, people hide in their homes and wait out the extreme weather.
The fort is clearly built as a bastion against the weather as much as waring tribes. When we asked about the storm the people of Jaisalmer simply smiled and said “The Gods are playing Holi.” Of course the gods are throwing colored sand at each other sill western girl.
